Type 1 Diabetes

My experiment:

The Affect of Different Artificial Sweetener on the Taste of Kool-Aid

Introduction:

Each year more than 15,00 children and 15,00 adults are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes that's about 80 people per day. As many as 3million American have type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is when your body does not produce insulin by its self and you have to inject insulin into your body. this means that you pancreas does not produce insulin on its own.

Hypothesis:

If the taste of Kool-Aid is changed by adding different artificial sweeteners then the 7th grade class of Ms.Kenny will be able to tell the difference between artificial sweetener and real sugar. If my hypothesis is correct then the 7th grade class of MS.Kenny will be able to tell the difference between real sugar and artificial sweeteners.

Materials:

  • Class of 7th graders

  • 32 Printed Surveys

  • 140 paper cups

  • 2 gallons of water

  • 2 packets of Kool-Aid

  • 5 Trays

  • 35 Packets of Splenda

  • 35 Packets of sugar

  • 35 packets of Sweet & Low

  • 35 packets of Equal

  • 1 black Sharpie

Experimental Procedures:

  1. Take the sharpie and label all the cups A,B,C,D

  2. Put Splenda in cup A, put 1 packet of sugar in cup B, put 1 packet of Sweet & Low in cup C, and put1 packet of Equal in cup D.
  3. 3. Place the cups on the tray according to the letter on the cup.
  1. Pour Kool-Aid in ½ of the cup.
  2. Pass out the cups to the students (make sure that each student has 4 cups)

  3. Then pass out the survey papers and tell them not to drink it.

  4. Explain the test.

  5. Then one at a time in order tell them to drink the Kool-Aid.

  6. After each cup have them rate it on a scale from 1 to 5.

  7. After the test have them finalize there answers and add an comments at the bottom of the page.

  8. At the end collect the survey and plug in you data into the table and record observations.

Table:Splenda : 14

Sugar : 2

Sweet & Low : 5

Equal : 17

Total amount of kids that took the survey= 30

Reflection: In my experiment it went well my final results show that the artificial sweetener “D” was the one that more people thought taste like sugar more people thought that it tasted like sugar people were putting that some of them were nasty like number 15 said “B was nasty” or number 22 said “D had to much sugar”. some some of my results don't totally add up to what most people said that they liked and other people said that the would of has cup A or cup B.
